First Task
Step 2 : A
· Left-top - FOCAL POINT
· Right-top - SCALE
· Left-bottom - BLANCE
· Right-bottom - RHYTHM
This is one of my early design works and this is also my favorite one. The criteria of this design is explore the principles of BLANCE, SCALE, FOCAL POINT and RHYTHM through four 2D designs in at least 3 colors. In this design, you can only use 2 letters from the Century Gothic, Ariel, Times New Roman or Bookman Old Style typeface and the design must respect the integrity of the form of the letter, that means the letters can't be cut up, extended, condensed or otherwise distorted.
In my design, I choose letter "g" and "I" from Bookman Old Style as the elements of the design because I think 'g' can have enough variety as the interesting shape of itself and "I" is simple enough and it can hide in anywhere else.
In the left-top design, you will find there is a transparent big "Q", actually it's the top part of the letter "g" and the ordering of letter "I" form a labyrinth, if you go through the labyrinth, you will find the letter ”g” - the focal point of this design. The big g and the small g echo each other and looks like letter "g" is fall into the labyrinth which made of letter "I".
The top-right design represents scale, I uses huge letter "I" as the background and the design full of different size and different combination of letters, these all form lots of interesting negative and positive spaces. I pretty like the combination of "g" and "I", to me, "I" can be a clothesline, and letter "g" hangs on it.
Then in the left-bottom one, letter ’g’ twining round the letter ’I’ like snakes and there’s a new little shape that the hooks of ”g” formed in the middle of them. It matched the theme of blance. In the last one, I combine “g” and ‘I’ and twists them for 360 degree to form a new shape. The transparent part is hard to cut.
B.
This is the La Pedrera by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi. I like the sculptural form of his work and the seemingly random arrangement of windows and all the other details on the building. The shape of the building twist and flowing naturally, it gives me a comfortable feeling.Gaudi used lots of abstract shape and colored mosaic on this building make it unique and magnificent.
